Micheal Gove, David Cameron and George Osborne. My first attempt at spray painting with 2 layered stencils. They were originally going to be wanted posters though I decided I liked them on their own. A2 on shiny and matte metallic card.

(Ignore the strange lines, they’re just where I’ve matched them up from the scanner!)

A recording of Conversation - 2 videos created for the Edgelands exhibition at Cube, Manchester.

My videos were created with the idea of two opposing environments conversing. It has been literally years since I’ve done anything involving solely the natural world and I admit I struggled so automatically sought to personify the city and the countryside.
The footage was filmed in Manchester, Salford, Hadfield, Grimsby/ Cleethorpes and the surrounding rural areas using different cameras including a HD camcorder and a very basic digital compact camera.
The TVs are two I managed to borrow from Uni and as they are lovely old CRTS they don’t respond well to being recorded!

Weelsby Woods, Grimsby. These are some posters created by another art student who I follow on here. They contain anonymous stories of rape sumbmitted via the inbox of the artist, with words painted over the top in red. The artist requested help from her followers to put the posters up in different places as a form of activism and awareness for others, which I am always happy to help with and proud to have taken part in a project with such a powerful message. For our professional practice module, a group of us are putting on a show at Cube in 2 weeks. The main idea behind the exhibition is the interaction of nature and urban environments and what comes between. We’ve all been working our socks off and there are some fantastic pieces of work being shown so the opening night guarantees to be a brilliant experience!

I’m currently at home for easter, where we own 2 printer/ scanners that won’t scan so this is just a photo update until I get back to salford and working technology.
Today I got a polaroid pogo printer and some paper delivered (thanks ebay!), so edited some pictures and decided to have a play around. But another technical hitch occured as my camera wouldn’t load half the files and my laptop refused to acknowledge the existance of my new device. So I was saved by my 3 year old phone and bluetooth.

These are some 2x3 inch adhesive prints I’ve made. Some are double exposures where I’ve just loaded the same paper twice, others have been burned, soaked in water, pealed, layered and three are just straight prints that I edited in Picasa (which I’ve recently moved on to in an attempt to get a bit more savvy with editing software but again a photoshop trial wouldn’t instal so I went for something less familiar than paint and Microsoft Office). I’ll get there one day with the editing marlarchy but for now I’m quite happy doing things manually as anything computer based leaves me baffled.

I had intended to make some lino prints, however ended up downloading some software and attempting a simple task of editing photos (something which I have no skills with whatsoever!). I looked at some tutorials on youtube and managed to make these with Picasa.

The white bits will be the colour of the paper - in this case high gloss and dull metallics, though they probably will end up being white when I downsize to A4 paper rather than A2/1 as I’ll be making “wanted” posters when I return to Salford after easter. It’ll definitely be fun to put some up around the place!

A few clips taken whilst marching in the Manchester Bedroom Tax Demo and afterwards at the rally in Piccadilly Gardens on Saturday 16th March 2013.

For those of you unaware of what all the fuss is about, bedroom tax is being introduced this April. It will affect people living in council houses or housing association homes with spare bedrooms, as they will have their housing benefits cut.
This means that people will face losing between £10-£20 a week of their welfare money, which will mean that those already struggling are just going to be plunged further into debt and poverty. I think this is disgusting as I grew up in a council house, and my grandma lived in social housing so I know that these properties aren’t all up to standard, and in a lot of cases overcrowding is an issue. Along with the fact that there is a shortage of council properties throughout Britain, so people have to accept homes with surplus bedrooms or face being on the waiting list for longer, or perhaps even homeless.
To me, this is simply an attack on the working classes. Britain has been in a recession. People have been made unemployed. Depression and stress related illnesses are on the increase. These people need homes and should be cared for. They didn’t cause this mess and they sure as hell shouldn’t have to pay for it. Will this money that the bedroom tax creates be used to provide for the homeless, the single parents, the unemployed, the sick? Will it be used to improve housing and build new homes and community spaces? Of course it won’t.
I just hope that someone high up in this suppossed democracy takes notice of these protests that have been cropping up over the country. We need the government to realise that attacking the working class won’t help this economy (which is apparently the reason they’re bringing in these awful policies - something stinks, right?), and that those who caused the deficit need to pay for it. What about taxing those with multiple homes and big country manors with countless bedrooms who sit there cosy every night with excess money whilst the people who are having to clean up this mess get no sleep at night through worry? Of course I’m a dreamer yet a cynic so as much as I wish things in this country, or in fact this world, would change, I, or someone else has to come up with a way to defeat the current system which is definitely not an easy task.
If you find yourself filled with apathy then I suggest you take a look around you, a look at your own life because at some point, unless you own a big business, have an important daddy, are part of the aristocracy, a celebrity, member of parliament etc, then it could easily be your life turned upside down next.
